European funding – The Sixth Framework Programme
ESTOOLS has been funded under the Sixth Framework Programme - the European Union’s main instrument for funding research in Europe. Our four-year project began in August 2006, and will receive a total of €12 million from the EU. This funding supports our research programme. It also, importantly, helps accelerate and maximize the impact of that research – by facilitating trans-European collaboration and initiatives in training, ethics and public engagement.

ESTOOLS is within the Sixth Framework Programme’s Life sciences, genomics and biotechnology for health priority. This priority aims to advance medicine and quality of life for European citizens, and to integrate “post-genomic research into the more established biomedical and biotechnological approaches”. Involvement of a broad cross-section of stakeholders - addressed by ESTOOLS through the involvement of both academic and commercial partners, our ethics workpackage and outreach plans - is also important.

The ESTOOLS project completed its 4 years of activity. This website remains online as a reference archive.
